City Council Vacancy Appointment Process Open for Position 6

Position 6 on City Council is vacant effective August 23, 2024. State law provides that City Council shall appoint a qualified person to fill the position within 90 days. The term for Position 6 will expire in 2025. 

The vacancy appointment process is now open.

Application Process

The timeline for filling the Council vacancy is as follows:

  • September 11, 2024: Applications due to City Clerk by 4:30 PM. Start Application
  • September 12 – 20, 2024: Council will review applications to determine candidates who will move forward in the process.
  • October 3, 2024: Town Hall Public Forum – Public forum to introduce candidates to Ridgefield residents and give them the opportunity to express their ideas and opinions about what they would do if appointed to a City Council position. Details
  • October 10, 2024: During a public study session, City Council will interview candidates. During the regular session, Council will appoint a new Councilmember. The new Council member will be sworn in and attend the regularly scheduled Council meeting.

Resident Participation

Ridgefield community members have three opportunities to participate in the selection of a new City Council member: 

  1. Provide questions for use during the Town Hall Public Forum. Questions may be submitted online at www.RidgefieldRoundtable.org. Deadline to submit questions before the Public Forum is 4:30 PM on September 30.
  2. Attend the Town Hall Public Forum on October 3, ask questions during the Town Hall and provide observations about the candidates to City Council via email. The Town Hall can be attended in person, or online via Zoom. Details
  3. Observe the interviews during City Council Study Session on October 10 and, if desired, provide public comment to Council regarding the candidates prior to appointment.

Pioneer Street Closure - September 13-16

Pioneer Street will be closed from 8 PM Friday evening, September 13 to 6 AM Monday, September 16, between 47th Avenue and 53rd Place. This closure will allow the city’s contractors to install a major stream culvert east of 47th Avenue as part of the Pioneer Widening and 50th Place Roundabout project.

A detour route will be in place along S Royle Road, Wells Drive, Timm Road, S 6th Way and S 56th Place. Drivers are also encouraged to choose an appropriate detour for their destination, for example if you are headed to La Center, consider driving north on Royle Road. Please remember to drive the appropriate speed through detours and always keep an eye out for pedestrians, cyclists and others sharing the roadway.

Wednesday, September 4: Musicians in Park 2024 Finale

Come to Overlook Park, at the corner of Pioneer St and Main Ave, Wednesdays and Fridays for a music filled lunch hour. Please feel free to bring a picnic lunch or pick up take out from Downtown restaurant. There will be a few benches and picnic tables, but we encourage you to bring your own folding chairs as well. Arbielle will be playing viridescent, harmony-driven, contemporary folk on September 4. Learn more

Wednesday, September 4: Meet Me on Wednesdays 2024 Finale

Come downtown for a guided walk starting at 10 AM at Overlook Park! The September 4 walk will be on the Orienteering Course in Abrams Park. Learn more

Thursdays through October 3: Dragon Boat Community Paddles

Ridgefield Dragon Boat community paddling is your opportunity to join a fun, team oriented activity at no cost from June 13 through October 5. Paddlers must be 14 years of age or older to participate. No experience is needed, Registration Required. Learn more and Register

It’s the 25th annual celebration of the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge with activities on the refuge and downtown, including birding, vendors, crafts, bluegrass music and a Pickers Festival ! This year you can also participate in a sunset paddle on the Ridgefield Dragon Boats on Friday night, October 4. Learn more
