Protect Your Purchases: Move Packages Inside

Online shopping ticks up this time of year, and porch pirates know it. Packages left on your porch are an easy target for thieves, and the Ridgefield Police Department has already seen an uptick in package theft.

If you are expecting a delivery, do not leave it on your doorstep for a long period of time. Plan to be home at the time of delivery or shortly after. If you know you will be away, have a friend or neighbor pick up your packages in a timely manner and hold them for you.

Let's Tackle Fall Leaves Together

All of a sudden, trees are bare and the ground is covered in leaves!

Our Public Works crews have been out sweeping streets and gathering leaves in parks, but with over 30 parks and 40+ lane miles to cover, we could use your support gathering leaves.

Fallen leaves that end up in the street can clog storm drains and other parts of the Stormwater system, cause flooding, and release harmful nutrients into nearby waterways. If left to decay on sidewalks, they become very slippery in snow and ice.

Best practice: Collect the leaves on your property and any adjacent sidewalk and dispose of them properly in your green organics bin, at a yard debris center, or in your home compost system.

Please remember to keep leaves out of the street.

Piling or blowing leaves into the street can clog storm drains, leading to standing water and creating hazards for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.

Preparing for Winter Weather

Public Works Operations prepares for weather events by diligently following weather reports and monitoring weather stations. Our crews start working long before snowflakes fall to keep roads open during inclement weather.

In a snow or ice event, roads are cleared or treated by priority identified on the Snow and Ice Removal Map. During a winter weather event, we provide updates from the City operations crew on our website, Facebook and by text.

Council Update

November Council Action Highlights

Updates to Commercial Development Code to Support Small Business

On November 6, City Council adopted Ordinance No. 1460, updating the City’s Commercial Development Code to create greater flexibility and lower costs for small businesses.

These updates reflect direct input from community members, including small business owners, commercial developers, and residents, who shared their experiences and suggestions through public comments and discussions with staff, Planning Commission and City Council. The result is a set of amendments that make it easier and more cost-effective to do business in Ridgefield while maintaining community standards for high quality design.

Among the most impactful changes is the expansion of the City’s downtown traffic impact fee reduction program to the Commercial Neighborhood Business (CNB) zone. This adjustment lowers upfront costs for developments in the CNB, helping local entrepreneurs build and grow in Ridgefield. In December, Council will consider another proposed amendment to allow commercial traffic impact fees to be paid in installments, creating greater flexibility for small businesses by spreading out startup costs.

The adopted provisions apply to future commercial development and building improvements and are part of Ridgefield’s ongoing effort to be responsive, forward-thinking, and supportive of a strong local business economy.
