Event Planning & Permits

The City of Ridgefield has a designated process for planning special events, reserving parks, and using special equipment in parks.

Special Event Permits must be submitted at least 60 days in advance of your event. To learn more about if a Special Event Permit is required for your event, click here. While there is no fee for submitting a Special Event Permit Application, there may be fees associated with the permit if City Personnel or Services are required.

Reserve a park for your event online beginning January 1, 2020. Through the online portal you will be able to view availability, rates, reserve, and pay for your park rental. Abrams and Overlook Parks are the only parks that may be reserved, all other parks are first-come, first-serve. A refundable deposit is due at the time of reservation and park rental fees are due 10 days prior to the event. Park Rental Fee Schedule.

Special Equipment (inflatable house, dunk tank) is not allowed in any City of Ridgefield parks without a Park Use Permit. If you want to temporarily install special equipment at any park, you must submit a Park Use Permit Application. There is no fee for submitting a Park Use Permit Application, there may be fees associated with the permit if City Personnel or Services are required.

When Is a Permit Required?

The City of Ridgefield is proud to offer a large number of parks that are open and available to the City’s residents and visitors. For an individual to reserve use of a City park, street or other City facility for a special use: a permit is required. This permit process provides the City of Ridgefield a mechanism to prevent conflicts in use of city property; allow for necessary site/facility preparations; and protect the public’s health, safety and general welfare.

There are two (2) types of permits that may be required:

Special Event Permit Authorization for a renter or vendor to conduct or host a special event or public gathering in a public or privately-owned outdoor venue. Examples include: block parties, festivals, parades, fun runs, etc. Must be submitted at least 60 days prior to the event date.

Park Use Permit: A Park Use Permit is required to reserve space at Abrams or Overlook Parks, or to temporarily install special equipment at a park such as an inflatable house or a dunk tank. The areas that may be reserved are:

  • Abrams Park – Baseball, Softball and Grassy Fields
  • Bennett Hall at Abrams Park – Bennett Hall, Kitchen, Plaza, and Open Space
  • Overlook Park – Stage, Plaza and Grassy Area
