Water Savings Add Up: Ridgefield Moves to Stage 2 Conservation

Thanks to the efforts of Ridgefield residents, the community is officially moving into Stage 2 of the City’s Water Conservation Strategy. Together, we’ve sustained daily water use below 2.5 million gallons. Even during the hottest days, your conservation efforts kept usage under 3 million gallons, which meant our system maintained strong water pressure for emergencies.

The results speak for themselves. Compared to 2024, Ridgefield saved an average of 275,000 gallons of water per day in July and August. In fact, total citywide water billing for those two months was about $20,000 lower than last year. Your conservation not only protects our shared natural resources—it also saves you money.

The City adopted the Water Conservation Strategy this spring as a proactive plan to manage water demand during peak irrigation season. By conserving water, Ridgefield residents help maintain reliable service, steady water pressure, and protect natural resources.

What’s Next?

Stage 2 is now in effect and will remain through September 30. At that point, the City anticipates leaving the strategy for the season. While conservation is valuable all year, it is especially critical during the summer months when demand is at its highest.

Under Stage 2, we're asking customers to voluntarily adopt conservation practices such as following the Odd/Even watering schedule, watering at night, and taking care of leaks promptly.

We are proud of the community’s commitment to water conservation and encourage everyone to continue following the practices that helped us achieve these results.

August Council Action Highlights

Storybook Hollow Park Named

On August 28, 2025, following multiple rounds of discussion and community engagement, City Council officially dedicated our newest park as Storybook Hollow Park.

Council expressed gratitude for the many thoughtful suggestions submitted by residents and the Parks Board. While the final name was not taken directly from one single proposal, both “Storybook” and “Hollow” appear in suggestions and the combination was inspired by the whimsical, nature focused theme reflected in so many ideas.

Thank you to everyone who participated and shared your creativity. Your input shaped the process and helped give this park a name that will delight Ridgefield families for generations to come.

Storybook Hollow Park is under construction now and will open this fall featuring two playgrounds with a picnic shelter between them, a nature trail, parking lot and accessible paths throughout the playground and park.
