Compost Your Pumpkins

Give your Halloween pumpkins a second life. Instead of throwing them in the garbage and sending them to the landfill, compost them to reduce food waste and nourish the earth.

  1. Curbside Compost: Pumpkins are accepted in your green Waste Connections Organics cart.
  2. Free Drop-Off: We Compost Community Hubs are available to all Clark County residents. The closest to Ridgefield is at Community of Christ Southridge, 400 NE 179th St.
  3. Backyard Compost: If you have a home compost system, chop up pumpkins into smaller pieces and place in your compost pile or worm bin. If you want to learn how to compost, check out free workshops and virtual resources with the Composter Recycler Program.

Brown, orange and red autumn leaves.

Taking Care of Fallen Leaves = Taking Care of Our Environment

The vibrant colors of fall are on full display this week, highlighting the beauty of our hometown.

Fallen leaves that end up in the street can clog storm drains and other parts of the Stormwater system, cause flooding, and release harmful nutrients into nearby waterways.

Best practice: Collect the leaves on your property and any adjacent sidewalk and dispose of them properly in your green organics bin, at a yard debris center, or in your home compost system.

Please remember to keep leaves out of the street.

Piling or blowing leaves into the street can clog storm drains, leading to standing water and creating hazards for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.

Clark County residents can take advantage of the Fall Leaf Coupon program from Clark County Public Works. With the coupon, you can drop off up to 5 cubic yards of leaves for free through December 31.
