As progress continues on the Pioneer Widening and Discovery Drive Project, several new traffic changes will affect drivers in the area.
TRAFFIC SHIFT – Monday, October 14
Starting Monday, October 14, traffic on Pioneer Street, from approximately 47th Place to 50th Place, will shift north onto a temporary bypass road. This adjustment is necessary for utility work to take place this week and will remain in place for a few months. During this time, crews will work on the south half of the culvert and complete street improvements for that section.
PIONEER CLOSURE – Sunday, October 20
On Sunday, October 20 Pioneer Street will be CLOSED between Discovery Drive and just west of 53rd Place from 7 AM -6 PM. This closure is required for utility companies to prepare equipment ahead of the culvert installation. A detour route will be in effect via S Royle Road, Wells Drive, Timm Road, S 6th Way, and S 56th Place. Local access to businesses such as Mountain View Dental, Ridgefield Physical Therapy, and Costco will be maintained from the west via Discovery Drive. Detour map (PDF)
PIONEER CLOSURE – 8PM Friday, October 25 to 6 AM Monday, October 28
Pioneer Street will be CLOSED between Discovery Drive and just west of 53rd Place from 8 PM Friday, October 25 to 6 AM Monday, October 28. During this period, city contractors will install a major stream culvert. The same detour route along S Royle Road, Wells Drive, Timm Road, S 6th Way, and S 56th Place will apply. For Your Safety:
- The speed limit on Pioneer Street from Royle Road to 56th Place is 25 mph, as this area is a designated work zone.
- Intermittent flagging is ongoing in the project area, on both Pioneer Street and Discovery Drive. Please be aware and ready to follow the instructions of flaggers.
- When using the detour, please drive carefully, adhere to posted speed limits, and watch for pedestrians and cyclists.
We apologize for the late notice regarding these closures. The project team has encountered challenges in coordinating schedules with utility providers, and we are facing a strict deadline for essential culvert work. This work must be completed now to keep the project on schedule, as delaying it would push the opportunity until Spring.
