New Roundabout Artwork Connects Students, Industry, and Community

City News Posted on December 17, 2025

New artwork has been installed in the center island of Ridgefield’s newest roundabout at Pioneer Street and Discovery Drive. The steel structures feature bird silhouettes inspired by our neighboring wildlife refuge and the story behind the artwork goes beyond design.

Earlier this year, the City partnered with Alpha Iron, a Ridgefield-based steel fabricator, to create the custom pieces. During the planning process, Alpha Iron proposed an idea that would turn the project into a learning opportunity: involving students from Ridgefield High School Metal Technology in the fabrication.

In October, students visited Alpha Iron’s shop, where they received training, learned about industrial equipment, and helped fabricate the artwork. The experience provided hands-on exposure to real-world manufacturing and skilled trades, while giving students a direct connection to a permanent feature in their community.

The installed artwork represents more than the birds it depicts. It reflects collaboration between local students, local business and local government.
