City of Ridgefield Awarded $7,300 Grant to Support Farmers Market Growth

City News Posted on July 12, 2024

The City of Ridgefield is thrilled to announce that it has recently been awarded a $7,360 grant from the Washington State Department of Agriculture. This grant will support the expansion and enhancement of the Ridgefield Farmers Market.

Out of 337 submissions, Ridgefield's project was one of only 40 selected for funding. The grant will be utilized for several key improvements at the market, including the purchase of handwashing stations, new signage and banners, essential safety equipment, a canopy, and the creation of a dedicated website. These upgrades will not only enhance the market experience for both vendors and visitors but will also help promote the market and inform the community about its offerings.

The Ridgefield Farmers Market provides numerous benefits to the community. By directly connecting local farmers, producers, artists and entrepreneurs with consumers, the market ensures access to fresh, locally grown produce. This not only supports the local economy but also reduces the carbon footprint associated with long-distance food transportation. Furthermore, the market fosters a sense of community and belonging by serving as a social hub where residents can gather and interact.

The grant will significantly enhance the Ridgefield Farmers Market's ability to serve the community effectively as the market continues to grow.

We invite all community members to join us in celebrating this exciting development by visiting the Ridgefield Farmers Market. The market is open every Saturday at Davis Park from 9 AM to 2 PM. Check out the Ridgefield Farmers Market on Facebook for a sneak peak at vendor offerings.
