The process to appoint a new council member to Position 6 on Ridgefield City Council is entering the final stage. The next step is a City Council Special Meeting, beginning at 5:30 PM Thursday, October 10, when the two candidates will be interviewed by City Council.

After interviews are complete there will be an opportunity for the public to provide comment regarding the candidates. During the Regular City Council Meeting, which will be called to order at 6:30 PM, Council will move into an Executive Session pursuant to RCW 42.30.110(1)(h), to evaluate the qualifications of the candidates for appointment to City Council. The meeting will reconvene for the Deliberation and Selection of an appointee for Position No. 6, and the selected candidate will take the Oath of Office and attend the rest of the regularly scheduled Council meeting.

The City Council Special Meeting and Regular Meeting are open to the public and may be attended in person at 510 Pioneer Street, or online via Zoom.

Background

City Council Position 6 became vacant following the resignation of Jennifer Lindsay, effective August 23, 2024. In accordance with Washington state law, the City Council must appoint a qualified individual to fill the vacancy within 90 days. The appointee’s term will expire in 2025.

Applications were accepted August 23 through September 11, and included a questionnaire, letter of interest, and a resume. After reviewing the applications, the Council selected two candidates, Rian Davis and Darcy Rourk, to advance to the next stage of the appointment process.

A public forum was held on October 3, to introduce the two candidates to the community and provide an opportunity for them to share their ideas and vision for Ridgefield. Members of the public were invited to submit questions for the forum, attend the public forum in person or online, and asked to provide any observations about the candidates that they would like Council to consider via email.
