The City of Ridgefield’s first Youth Commission was appointed by City Council on Thursday, November 6 and held its inaugural meeting shortly after. Throughout 2026, Commission members will research, engage with the community, and ultimately develop recommendations for City Council on the topic of e-bikes, e-scooters, and similar devices.
The Ridgefield Youth Commission is designed to give young residents a direct voice in local government. Comprised of 8th to 12th grade students, the Commission will provide hands-on experience with civic leadership, collaborative problem-solving, and the foundations of public process. Members will meet regularly, hear from experts, participate in discussions with one another, seek feedback from other youth, learn how to conduct official meetings, and prepare a final report summarizing their findings and recommendations. Their work may result in updates to local regulations.
At their first meeting, members learned about their new role and how their work will support thoughtful planning and community safety in Ridgefield. They also met with City Councilmembers to discuss how city government works, what it means to serve on an advisory board, and to ask questions about current issues in Ridgefield.
This is a thoughtful and motivated group of youth, and we look forward to hearing their perspectives and supporting their growth as future community leaders.
