Ridgefield City Council is considering expanding police services to the City of La Center.
La Center has struggled with declining revenues for the past several years and is exploring ways to provide needed services to its community. La Center approached Ridgefield about contracting police services after negotiations with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office fell through.
La Center and Ridgefield have a positive working relationship and the two police departments have a long history of collaboration and mutual aid. Due to this relationship, Ridgefield City Council asked staff to work with a consultant to determine the feasibility of shared services, including possible benefits and risks.
Ridgefield City Council’s first priority is to Ridgefield’s residents and they want to ensure service levels for Ridgefield wouldn’t be diminished should an agreement be reached. Council asked for a community survey to be conducted to allow residents input on the decision.
The survey is open now through June 21.
