[ARCHIVED] City of Ridgefield Seeks Applicants for New Roundabout Commission

The City of Ridgefield is seeking dynamic and self-motivated volunteers for positions on the new Roundabout Commission.

Roundabouts improve safety and traffic flow, reduce delay, and are less expensive to maintain when compared to traffic signals. Ridgefield has successfully added several roundabouts in recent years and the City plans to continue using roundabouts at intersections where appropriate in the future. The central island of roundabouts presents a unique opportunity for place-making design.

The City is creating a new commission to research aesthetic designs for the central island in each of the City’s roundabouts. The designs should encourage and promote the history, landscape and culture of the City of Ridgefield.

The Roundabout Commission will be comprised of five volunteer citizens who recommend roundabout center island design concepts to City Council for selected roundabouts within the city limits of Ridgefield. The Commission will solicit and review design concepts, review input from Public Works on constructability, cost and maintenance, and make recommendations to the City Council.

Roundabout Commission members will serve two-year terms, and meet when necessary. Eligible applicants must reside within the city limits. Members of the arts community, landscapers/gardeners, and business-oriented individuals are especially encouraged to apply. Two appointees will fulfill as midterm with term expiring on December 31, 2024 and a potential for reappointment for an additional two-year term.

Complete the Application for Roundabout Commission

Applications must be received no later than 4:30pm on Monday, November 20, 2023. Members are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by City Council.

For questions about the application process, contact Julie Ferriss, City Clerk at 360-887-3557 or city.clerk@ridgefieldwa.us
